Why’s the SIC Code in my Company Report 4 digits long?

As long as the company has filed an annual return, all of our company reports include the company SIC (standard industrial classification) code. If a return has not been filed, this field will be blank.

You may notice that some companies have a four digit code while others have a five digit code. The four digit codes are the old ones, the five digit codes are the new ones. Therefore, if a company is using a four digit code, they simply haven’t filed a return since the new codes came in place.
